MIKELARTETA
THE BOSS · MANAGER

138+ YEARS OF ARSENAL
THE STORY
SO FAR.
From a factory team in Woolwich to one of world football’s great institutions. Scroll through the moments that made the Arsenal.
THE BEGINNING
Munitions workers at the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich form Dial Square. The team win their first match 6–0 and soon become Royal Arsenal.
LEAGUE PIONEERS
Now Woolwich Arsenal, the club joins the Football League—the first southern member—and turns professional.
NORTH LONDON
The club crosses the Thames and opens Highbury with a 2–1 win over Leicester Fosse. A new home begins a new identity.
CHAPMAN ARRIVES
Herbert Chapman transforms Arsenal with tactical innovation, floodlights, numbered shirts and a modern vision for the club.
THE FIRST DYNASTY
Five league titles and two FA Cups establish Arsenal as the dominant force of English football in the 1930s.
THE FIRST DOUBLE
Bertie Mee’s side win the league at White Hart Lane, then beat Liverpool at Wembley to complete a historic Double.
ANFIELD, 26 MAY
Needing to win by two goals, Michael Thomas scores in the final seconds at Anfield: ‘It’s up for grabs now!’
WENGER’S REVOLUTION
Arsène Wenger arrives and reshapes English football through technique, nutrition and a new cosmopolitan Arsenal.
DOUBLE VISION
Wenger’s teams twice capture the Premier League and FA Cup in the same season, playing football with pace and imagination.
THE INVINCIBLES
Henry, Vieira, Bergkamp and company complete all 38 league matches unbeaten—the only team to do so in the Premier League era.
A NEW HOME
After 93 years at Highbury, Arsenal move to Emirates Stadium, expanding the stage for the club’s next chapter.
WEMBLEY YEARS
Four FA Cups in seven seasons take Arsenal to a record 14 triumphs in the competition, more than any other club.
THE ARTETA ERA
Former captain Mikel Arteta returns as manager, builds a young, fearless side and reconnects team, club and supporters.
